How To Buy

The excitement of bidding at auction is better experienced than described!  It is also a serious business.  As a prospective buyer it is wise to examine personally those items for which you intend to bid.  The Salerooms are open for public viewing during  the 3-5 days before the Sale.  Admission and on site car parking is free.  As a courtesy, we provide condition reports on most lots, but our liability is limited.  Please click here for Conditions of Business.

Bidding
Bids can be made in person, by leaving a commission bid or by telephone.

If you are not known to Mellors and Kirk or if you have not purchased from us within the last two years two forms of identification will be required.  It may also be necessary to provide financial references.

In person Before bidding prospective buyers are required to register at Reception and obtain a Bidding Number.

By commission bid  If you cannot attend the Sale, you can leave a bid in your absence.  Please use the form in the catalogue or available at Reception.  Bids should be submitted prior to the commencement of the Sale.  We will always try to buy the lot for as little as is allowed by other bids or the reserve.   Please contact us at around 4pm on the day of the Sale, or on the following day, to ascertain whether your bid has been successful.

By telephone Lines are available for those who cannot attend but wish to bid ‘live’ at the Sale.  Please contact us as early as possible if you would like to arrange a telephone bid as the number of available lines is limited.  We will call you shortly before your lot comes up for sale, usually about 5 lots in advance.

Buyers Premium  In addition to the hammer price, buyers are charged a premium of 17.5%.  Some or all of the lots in a Sale may also be sold subject to VAT, but these will be clearly identified.
